As shy as I am, it always takes me lots of time to know new people. Fortunately so many generous backpackers here try to start a conversation with us, to know our daily life, to know the complicated issue between Taiwan and China.
Su Young, an active 24 years old girl from Korea, who always gets the hottest news and gossip about people in YHA. We talked much about politics and historical issue between South Korea and Korea. “It’s ridiculous to divide Korea just with 38th parallel line without any rational reasons” “Korean used to think of South Korea and North Korea people are all from the same big family, but not anymore.” I expressed my sorrow to those people struggling in North Korea, but she simply said “I don’t think they do feel depressed because they know nothing about what’s going on outside.” I didn’t say anything, but actually that is what I feel sad about.
Besides Su Young, I have another three roommates. Oad, the cool French and Sophie, the pretty Quebec, are maverick girls that I seldom saw them hanging out with other people from France, but I do like them at the first sight. They showed me how to play pull and invited us to have a drink last night.
And of course I can’t miss my dear partners in strawberry farm. Kantak always let me think of the comedy role in Japanese Drama with roared laughing. His girlfriend Masami is a gentle girl associated with traditional Japanese girl who works hard to maintain a family. Sodezi? I won’t be surprised if he is the male lead.
Mark, the Irish guy who is so kind that he appreciate my speaking “You know what? Your English is good!”…probably just because of the effect of alcohol, haha… Dini, the girl from German likes big hug so much. I hugged her more than five times in one night! Adam, the Sweden boy, totally looks like Tom Felton that we called him Malfoy in private.
And we spent hours and hours complaining about the guard staff who troubled us a lot at the club, the accent in different countries, the complex feeling mixing with love and hatred toward smoking, the difficulties they faced with quitting smoke, the different aesthetic standard between Asian and Western people about white or tense color of skim…It should be the most wonderful night I’ve ever had since I came to Australia.
I start to live like Aussie. The way they drink, they talk and they laugh. Life is easy, life is hard. “Today is today, tomorrow is tommorw.”That is one of my favorite the words from Oad. I don’t want to miss what I am living through now even the future is still vague to me.
Because of all of these benevolent people, I start to think of Maroochydore as my temporary sweet home.
